Greater transparency through STAIRs
New government requirements called Social Tenant Access to Information Requirements (STAIRs) are being introduced to make it easier for social housing tenants to access information about their landlord.
What are STAIRs?
STAIRs are new requirements introduced under the Social Housing (Regulation) Act 2023. They are designed to give housing association tenants greater access to information about their landlord, similar to the information council tenants can request through Freedom of Information rules.
This means you’ll have greater visibility of how we manage your home and our services, and gain access to the information you need to hold us to account.
What will I be able to see?
From October 2026, we’ll publish a range of information about how we work and the services you receive. This includes information about areas such as:
• repairs and maintenance
• keeping homes safe
• complaints and how we handle them
• our performance
• how we make decisions and spend money.
We already published some of this information, but STAIRs will make it clearer and easier to find, without having to request it.
From 1 October, you’ll be able to find the information we publish under STAIRs together in one place on our website (available from 1 October).
What if I want information that isn’t published?
We will continue to improve the information available on our website to save you having to make requests. However, if you really feel we should have published something we haven’t, you can request a STAIRs review. Additionally, from April 2027, you’ll also have the right to ask us for certain information about your home, our services or how we make decisions that isn’t already published or published in a way that is easy for you to understand.
We’ll normally need to respond to reviews and requests within 30 calendar days. We’ll explain more about how to make a request before this part of the requirements comes into effect.
You have a right to know how your home is managed, how decisions are made and how your money is spent and we aim to make this as clear and easy for you to find
