How our Money Advice Team helped Julie find independence and peace of mind
Julie says the support she received from the Money Advice Team has made a “huge difference” to her family’s life and not just financially. For her, it has meant independence, freedom, and the chance to spend more quality time together as a family, without the constant pressure of managing everything on her own.
With help from the Money Advice Team, Julie was supported to apply for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) for both of her children. The process felt daunting, particularly the phone calls and paperwork, but with guidance from a Money Advice Partner, she was supported every step of the way. This included being set up as an appointee for her daughter and help with calls to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

With the right support in place, both children were awarded PIP and Julie was able to use the mobility element of her son’s award to get a mobility car.
I now have more independence and the freedom of having a car and being able to take my children to the places they need to go.
Having access to a car has changed day-to-day life for the family.
Julie said, “Getting the car has been the most positive change. I can now go shopping and don’t have to rely on taxis or other people for this. The money has assisted with my children’s needs and enabled us as a family to get out more and do more activities together.”
Julie also spoke about the personal nature of the support she received and how she never felt she was facing things alone.
“I was kept up to date and checked on regularly…Nothing was ever too much trouble to find out or do.”
Her message to other residents who might be unsure about asking for help is:
“I would tell anyone to ask for help as it is an easy service to access with support on hand and a personalised service.“
