How our Money Advice Team supported Helen through a difficult time


“The help I’ve received from Jess, the Money Support Partner at Settle has been immeasurable and I cannot express my gratitude enough.”

Helen, a Settle resident, says she felt supported, reassured and more confident after receiving help from our Money Advice Team during a particularly worrying time in her life.

The tenant was referred to the service and at the time felt very overwhelmed and said she would not have coped without the help she received.

“I was in a difficult and extremely worrying position. I had to attend a face-to-face Personal Independence Payment (PIP) review. I was so concerned and anxious about it, but Jess put me completely at ease and supported me through the assessment. All I can say is that she went way above and beyond to help me. Her kind, considerate and down-to-earth approach is simply wonderful.”

Since being referred to the Money Advice Team, Helen says her confidence has grown and she now feel less panicked.

…Just knowing there is help available when you’re struggling with financial matters has made such a positive difference.

Helen also said she now feels comfortable asking for further support, including help with budgeting.

“I know that I’ll be dealt with perfectly and without judgement.”

Before accessing the service, Helen admitted she didn’t know what to expect and worried the support might feel impersonal.

“I half expected the person I was being allocated to be unapproachable and lacking compassion. How wrong could I be? Jess was amazing and the way she was with my rather playful emotional support dog meant so much to me.”

Looking back, Helen said she wished they had known about the service sooner. They encouraged other residents not to hesitate in asking for help:

“To any resident considering asking for help from the Money Advice Service within Settle, my advice is simply ‘go for it and don’t delay’ as they are not only so helpful, they have your best interests at heart and there is nothing to be scared of. They are so well experienced…completely non-judgemental and with their help you will be put at ease with professionalism and kindness.”
