Fire safety – landlords like settle must fit all homes with a working fire detector alarm

Our priority at settle is to keep our residents and colleagues safe.

On 1 October, it became a legal requirement for social landlords like settle to fit and maintain fire alarms in all our properties and carbon monoxide alarms where required.

We’ve been working with our teams and partners to make sure each home has a smoke alarm on every

habitable floor and a carbon-monoxide alarm in any room with a fuel-burning appliance such as a gas or oil boiler.

Any alarms that are missing, faulty or expired will be replaced with hard wired detectors where possible which will have a 10-year life expectancy.

If you think your home is not protected with a working smoke or carbon-monoxide alarm, please let us know as soon as possible so we can fit the required alarms as a priority.

You can log-in to ‘my account’ and use the ‘report a repair’ option or call us on 0330 343 0016.

Test it Tuesday

We want to make sure you feel safe in your home so please test your alarms weekly. We recommend doing this on the same day each week, for example Tuesday so you know that it’s been checked. Test your alarms by pressing the test button and if they don’t make a loud noise, report it to us as soon as possible through ‘my account’ or calling 0330 343 0016.

Fire door safety in blocks and flats

The front door to your flat and communal doors in hallways are fire doors that will protect you from flames and toxic smoke for up to 30 minutes.

This gives enough time for the Fire and Rescue Service to reach you in an emergency. Please:
• Keep these doors closed at all times
• Don’t remove or tamper with closers
• Report anything missing, loose or broken to us immediately.
