Keeping residents safe – Safeguarding Adults Week 2025

A hand stops falling wooden dominoes on a blue background. Text reads: “#SafeguardingAdultsWeek 17–21 November” and “Prevention – act before abuse. Safeguarding Adults Week 2025.”

This week is Safeguarding Adults Week, a national week that brings organisations together to raise awareness about how we can all work to keep people safe. The theme for this year is ‘prevention’, which focuses on the steps we can take early on to stop harm from happening in the first place.

Across the country, organisations are exploring ways to create safer, more supportive communities. We’re taking part by sharing reminders and learning opportunities with our colleagues, highlighting best practice, and reinforcing the importance of acting early when something doesn’t feel right.

Our commitment to you

Keeping residents safe is our main priority. Our purpose is to give everyone a safe and comfortable home, and we have a duty of care to protect residents from abuse, harm or neglect.

All Settle colleagues, including contractors and Board members have a responsibility to protect adults at risk of abuse, and to help ensure the safety and welfare of any children living in our homes who may be at risk.

We work closely with partner organisations to make sure residents receive the right support. By working with partners and listening to residents, we can help create environments where people feel safe, supported and confident to seek help when they need it.

Earlier this year, we asked residents for feedback on our safeguarding policies, which explain how we protect adults and children. The policy sets out our commitment to:

  • Taking every concern seriously and acting quickly
  • Working closely with local authorities and support agencies
  • Training colleagues to spot signs of abuse or neglect
  • Acting as early as possible to prevent harm
  • Ensuring residents can access the support they need.

Most residents told us the policy was clear, and also shared helpful suggestions for improvement. Many residents asked for more information about how we respond to safeguarding concerns, easier access to support and contact details, and more straightforward language.

We’re now revising the policy to reflect your priorities. A clearer, updated version will be published soon on our website and on Settle Connect.

To hear more about how we put these commitments into practice and work with others to keep residents safe, you can watch our colleagues talk about Settle’s safeguarding culture below.

Who to contact if you’re worried

If you’re concerned about your safety, or someone else’s:

  • Contact us – we take every concern seriously and can pass information on to the right services.

  • Report directly to your local authority’s safeguarding team – this helps make sure concerns are dealt with as quickly as possible:

Hertfordshire: 0300 123 4042

Bedfordshire: 0300 300 8122

  • Call 999 if you believe someone is in immediate danger.

Reporting a concern can help us act early and prevent things from getting worse.
