New life-saving defibrillators installed at Icknield Walk and Girton Court

Residents at Icknield Walk in Royston and Girton Court in Hitchin are now able to access new life-saving defibrillators, installed by Settle in partnership with the Justin Edinburgh 3 (JE3) Foundation.

These installations are part of Settle’s ongoing work with partners to help keep residents and local communities safe. They also follow recent defibrillator installations in other Settle neighbourhoods – Westmill and the Jackmans estate.

The defibrillator at Icknield Walk was funded by Tripartum, an established partner that works with Settle to produce resident communications. The device at Girton Court was funded by Astraseal, a long-standing Settle contractor that provides windows and doors across Settle homes. Both companies were among the first to help fund this project, helping make these important life-saving devices available to local residents.

Charlie Edinburgh, founder of the JE3 Foundation gave a brief talk explaining how the defibrillators work and highlighted that using one within the first three minutes of a cardiac arrest can greatly improve a person’s chances of survival. The devices are fully automated and suitable for use on both adults and infants, providing vital support until emergency services arrive.

The JE3 Foundation was created in memory of Charlie’s father, Justin Edinburgh, a former Tottenham Hotspur player and Leyton Orient manager who tragically passed away after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest.

Joe Williams, Executive Director of Customer Services at Settle attended both installations and spoke about their importance:

We’re really pleased to continue our partnership working with the JE3 foundation at another of our biggest neighbourhoods, ensuring residents have access to critical life-saving equipment in case of emergency. This wouldn’t have been possible without the contribution of Tripartum and Astraseal, who we really appreciate providing the funding, so a huge thank you to them and the JE3 Foundation for making this possible.

Local councillor, Tim Johnson attended the Icknield Walk installation and welcomed the new equipment, saying:

This is really good news and a great reassurance for our local community. It would be great to see many more defibrillators installed, especially in health and sports facilities which I know Charlie and the JE3 foundation are campaigning for.
