Change to Bin Collections in North & East Herts

We’ve had some questions about changes to some bin collections, which are due to start from 4 August 2025 in the North and East Hertfordshire districts.
Bin collections are not our responsibility – they are managed by your local council. We want to keep you informed and to continue working with local councils to help keep your neighbourhood a great place to live.
You can find the most up-to-date information on these websites – www.north-herts.gov.uk/bin-collection-service-changes in North Herts and
Bin Collection Changes | East Herts District Council if you live in East Herts.
Changes from 4 August 2025
- Your collection day may change – check your updated collection day on your local council’s website.
- You will receive or may have already received new collection bins which will come into use from 4 August (blue lidded bin in North Herts and in East Herts, residents will get a brown outside food waste caddy and a kitchen food waste caddy for weekly food waste collections.)
- Residents in East Herts will also have a new purple-lidded bin for non-recyclable waste.
- Both councils will NOT collect the bins that are no longer in use.
If you live in a block of flats, there are no changes to the communal bin service.
Space for the bins
The local councils have advised that the bins have a similar footprint to the existing boxes so should not occupy much more space. If you have no front storage or rear access they can provide a reusable sack, if you think this applies to you, please contact your local councils: (North Herts) [email protected] or (East Herts) www.eastherts.gov.uk/contactus.
