Simple summer lunches project

We’ve launched a simple summer holiday lunch project to support children living in households in Letchworth, Hitchin and the surrounding villages, for the remaining three weeks of the school summer holidays.

Each week, basic cold lunches will be provided as well as ingredients for children to cook their own simple low cost, nutritious meal with their parents, following a simple video guide. The project is being delivered in partnership with CookeryEatery, a local food learning company. The project will give families an activity to do together and help the children build cookery skills for the future.

We’ve set up the summer lunch project as one of the ways we’re supporting our residents in response to COVID-19. The project will help families experiencing financial difficulties as a result of COVID-19, and where there are concerns the households doesn’t have enough food.

Children supported by this project are all living in settle homes and have been identified either through direct contact with one of our team or have been referred by their school. With thanks to the Letchworth Food Bank and Letchworth Salvation Army for supporting this project with donations of non-perishable items.

We’re continuing to offer help to residents with things like access to emergency food and financial support. If any resident needs support from us as their landlord, please contact us directly and we’ll do all we can to help.

Gavin Cansfield, Chief Executive said: “Throughout the months following the outbreak of COVID-19 we have all been doing all we can at settle to support our residents, colleagues and communities. We’ve been working in new ways to keep residents safe in their homes and do all we can to support their wellbeing. I am really pleased that we will be able to help so many children now through this new summer lunch project.”

Emma Goulding from CookeryEatery said “We thrive on creating opportunities to bring people together over food and are so happy to be working with settle this summer. Our aim is simple – to encourage more families to make food from scratch in their own homes.”
