Keeping warm in cold weather

Our priority is keeping residents and colleagues safe. We are currently experiencing a very cold spell of weather, and sharing some practical advice to help you stay safe and warm during periods of cold weather.

Reporting emergencies and repairs

If you need to report an emergency repair, please call us straight away on 0330 343 0016.

During periods of bad weather, our phone lines may be busier than usual, so wait times can be longer. You can choose whether to continue to wait and speak to one of our team or request a call-back. For heating problems, select Option 1 when calling to be routed directly to our heating contractors.

Know how to turn off your water

If a pipe bursts, acting quickly can limit damage. Your stopcock, which turns off the water supply to your home, is often located under the kitchen sink or in an airing cupboard. Knowing where it is before an emergency happens can save time.

You can watch a series of home repair video guides on our website that show you how to do simple things like fix a leaky tap or repressurise your boiler.

Keeping your home warm during cold weather

During very cold spells, it’s important not to let your home get too cold:

  • Keep your heating on at a steady, comfortable level throughout the day and night if you can. This helps reduce the risk of frozen or burst pipes.
  • Avoid letting indoor temperatures drop too low, particularly overnight or if you’re away from home.
  • Leave internal doors and cupboards (such as those under sinks) open to allow warm air to circulate around pipes.
  • If your radiators feel cold at the top, they may need bleeding.

If you’re worried about the cost of heating your home, support may be available. Please contact us on 0330 343 0016, or visit our Cost of Living page for more information.
