settle to deliver 119 new affordable homes in Central Bedfordshire

We are delighted to announce our partnership with Jarvis Partnership Homes to purchase a site to deliver 119 affordable homes in the Bidwell region of Houghton Regis, Central Bedfordshire.

Jarvis Contracting will deliver the scheme, ‘The Gates’, in three phases, providing a mixture of one, two, three and four-bed homes with 45 of them for social and affordable rent and 74 for shared ownership.

The Gates is the first land acquisition and turnkey development assembled by Jarvis Partnership Homes, taking it from initial site identification through to a successful detailed planning application.

The development is funded through Homes England’s Affordable Housing Fund 21/26 and is an important step as part of our corporate plan commitment to build 1,500 homes – 90% of which will be affordable – by 2024.  It is also a continuation of our successful partnership working with Jarvis – the main contractor delivering the first two phases of our £20million regeneration project at John Barker Place on the Westmill Estate in Hitchin, Hertfordshire.

Initial works will start on site in summer 2021 with the final phase completing in winter 2023.

Gavin Cansfield, chief executive at settle, said: “We’re delighted to continue our relationship with Jarvis and work in partnership with them on this development.

“The Gates is a great example of our commitment to work with partners and residents to provide good quality homes and services that respond to the needs of our residents, along with investing in neighbourhoods and communities.”

Mark Doyle, CEO, Jarvis Contracting added: “The Gates scheme represents a very exciting development, brought together through our Jarvis Partnership Homes brand. It will create a vibrant new community of family homes, as an example of well-considered placemaking for settle, who we look forward to continuing our successful working relationship with, building on the achievements so far at the ongoing regeneration of John Barker Place.”
