Our executive team
Gavin Cansfield, chief executive
Gavin has almost 30 years experience working in housing; developing and delivering support services for homeless people; general needs housing, specialist housing for older people and inner-city regeneration. During this time he’s worked for Tower Hamlets Homes, Hanover, Southern Housing Group and what is now Midland Heart. Gavin has a strong commitment to housing, its ability to transform people’s lives and provide a platform from which people can achieve their potential. He joined us in May 2015.
Nazar Al-Khalili, executive director of finance and resources
Nazar deals with treasury management, accountancy, insurance, HR, IT support and governance.
He qualified as a chartered accountant with KPMG in London before working in the private sector in a number of senior finance roles. He moved into social housing where he worked as Head of Finance at Origin Housing Group and more recently as Executive Director of Finance at Central & Cecil Housing Trust. He joined us in March 2018.
Shaun Holdcroft, executive director of customer experience and homes
Shaun is responsible for the landlord service, care and support, repairs, asset management and business improvement.
He joined us in May 2016 from Hyde Housing, where he was Director of Resident Services. Shaun brings a wealth of housing management experience and knowledge of customer experience design and channel shift.
Martin Nurse (Chair) - independent board member
Martin is a former housing association chief executive with over 35 years' experience of social housing and the housing sector. He has extensive understanding of housing development, governance, finance, customer service and risk management. Prior to his retirement in 2013, he held a variety of positions with the National Housing Federation as a council member and regional chair, as well as government bodies and groups. Martin has worked extensively on very successful large housing and community regeneration projects and restructuring of social housing such as older persons housing and extra care. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management and the KPMG Audit Committee Institute.
Christine Anthony - tenant board member
Christine was previously the Chair of our tenant forum. She is an active tenant taking part in mystery shopping, estate inspections and the Neighbourhood Working Group. Christine is also a qualified Early Years Practitioner and has always worked with children
Stacey Brewer - independent board member
Stacey is the Performance Manager at Catalyst Housing Group. She has 20 years housing and development experience having been Head of Policy, Performance and Communications at Wandle Housing Association and before that, Head of Housing Strategy and Development with Welwyn Hatfield Council. Stacey has a degree in housing and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing. She is passionate about the delivery of good quality housing services, has a strong affinity with the garden city movement and lives in Hertfordshire.
Philip Day – independent board member
Philip is a qualified Chartered Accountant who is currently Executive Director of Finance at Richmond Housing Partnership. Previous to this, Philip was Resources Director at Thrive Homes, a stock transfer organisation in Hertfordshire, and previous to this, Assistant Director within the Finance Department at Peabody, the London based Housing Association, having joined Peabody in 2002 from Deloitte where he was an Audit Manager with a varied client portfolio including housing associations, charities and commercial organisations.
Marie Li Mow Ching - independent board member
Marie has had a successful career in central government where she spent over 10 years in overseeing delivery of large scale regeneration, housing and economic development projects. Marie has a deep understanding of governance, financial management and business administration. Prior to her public service, Marie worked in a start-up manufacturing company where she gained wide commercial skills.
Kay Vowles – independent board member
Kay has more than 20 years' experience of working in social housing, in housing associations, local authorities and for the housing regulator. In recent years, she has been a consultant and interim manager, specialising in governance and helping housing associations in difficulties. Kay has a particular interest in improving customer services
Victor Dove - independent board member designate
Victor has over 40 years' experience in the property and construction industry including social housing and has served as a Board Director for the past 17 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge in design and delivery of housing, risk management and alternative funding models. Having lived in social housing himself until aged 21 Victor is an absolute believer in the value of social housing as a platform to help people achieve their goals.
Julian Baust - independent board member designate
Prior to taking early retirement, Julian was Chairman and Managing Director of Kodak Ltd where he led Kodak in the UK through one of the biggest transformations in recent history successfully moving it from analogue to digital. He has more than 30 years’ commercial experience in organisational redesign, transformation and performance management. He now serves on several boards and works as an independent management consultant.
